During a pandemic, sometimes it feels like there’s precious little good news. Here’s at least one upshot: Covered California has extended the deadline to enroll in health insurance until August 31st. If you or someone you care about needs health insurance, there’s still time to enroll!

Typically at this time of the year, you would need a Qualifying Event in order to enroll in coverage. That’s a good excuse like losing your health insurance through a job or parent, moving to a new area, getting married, or having a baby. But this year, Covered California is permitting any Californian who doesn’t have health insurance to enroll in coverage – at least until August 31st.

If you miss this window, you’ll need to wait until Open Enrollment, which typically runs from sometime in October or November until sometime in January. However, applications that are submitted during Open Enrollment won’t take effect until 2021. If you want health insurance for 2020, this is your last chance!
